MINNEAPOLIS — Now that it seems clear Byron Buxton has found the reset button for his young career, it’s fair to wonder when and where that momentous occasion took place.
This was back on April 28, three games after the Twins’ Opening Day center fielder was shipped back to Triple-A Rochester. Still a bit dazed after hitting .156 with 24 strikeouts in the season’s first three weeks, Buxton stepped into the box against the Toronto Blue Jays affiliate and tried to concentrate.
He took an off-balance swing for strike one. Then he noticed Red Wings hitting coach Chad Allen, arms draped over the railing of the visitors’ dugout, with a strange look on his face.
“I looked over at him, and he was smiling,” Buxton said. “I said, ‘What are you smiling for?’ ”
